ITALIAN WINE SCHOLAR CERTIFICATION
Who is this program for?
The Italian Wine Scholar™ curriculum is an Italian wine education program designed to provide committed students of wine with the most advanced and comprehensive specialization program on Italy!
The Italian Wine Scholar Program Units 1 and 2 cover Italian wine law, grape varieties and their organoleptic profiles, viticulture, winemaking, wine industry trends and economics and all DOCs and DOCGs with their regulations, wine styles and specificities. Unit 1 focuses on wines of Northern Italy, Unit 2 focuses on wines of Central & Southern Italy. This core body of knowledge is important whether you sell wine, buy wine or teach about wine.
This course provides a critical level of knowledge for those students working in food and beverage venues with wine programs, particularly venues with an emphasis on Italian wines. Serious wine enthusiasts will find this program provides an in-depth look at the different Italian regions and styles, allowing them to make more informed purchase decisions, and find new favorite regions!
There are no pre-requisites, however we highly recommend that students have at least a basic understanding of wine prior to registering for this course. Ideally students should possess the WSET Level 2 Award in Wines & Spirits, or equivalent intermediate level of wine knowledge.
The IWS program allows wine professionals to set themselves apart from their peers by specializing in the wines of Italy.
How does this program complement other, more general wine study programs?
The Italian Wine Scholar program is a great resource and supplement for students of wine moving towards advanced general wine study programs such as WSET Diploma (Level 4), Court of Master Sommeliers, Master of Wine, etc. The Italian Wine Scholar program serves as an advanced and comprehensive study supplement to help students master the complex wines of Italy.
